- The QAID - Question - Answer - Information - Database
- Compiled By Mike Dixon - mdixon@whidbey.net - Copyright August 1995
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Pronouced "CAID" (Because I made it up, and that's the way I say it. (grin)
- Available as a stand-alone hypertext database. Your appreciation for this
- work can be shown by simply sending me e-mail. It will encourage me to
- continue and improve the QAID. (I also entertain job offers <g>.)
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- WHAT IS IT?
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- The QAID is a hypertext collection of questions, answers, information,
- tips, tricks, news, rumors, etc.... The interface sports a fully indexed
- search routine, printing, exporting, copy-and-paste, bookmarks, and
- separate personal notes on each page.
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- INTERFACE CONSIDERATION
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- NOTE: These databases are authored to provide both a WWW page and a
- stand-alone interface all in one swing. Things that are not perfect are
- probably that way due to compatibility or conversion/formatting needs.
-

- AUTHORING SOFTWARE USED
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- These databases were authored using HyperWriter! 4.01. The WWW Home Page
- Version of the QAID utilizes HyperWriter's "Save as HTML" option to convert
- to HTML (WWW) form.
-
- For those recieving this database in the stand-alone form the WWW page can
- be found at: http://www.whidbey.net/~mdixon/qaid0001.htm
-
- Please visit this site for the most up-to-date information and newest
- downloadable version.
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- INSTALLATION OF THE QAID
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- 1. Create a directory for the QAID. (There are many files in the QAID, so
- you will not want to put it in a directoy with another program.)
-
- 2. Unzip the QAID to the created directory. >>>If prompted to overwrite
- files choose YES.<<<
-
- 3. Run the QAID by executing HRW.EXE. The INI file will self adjust to the
- new directory.
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- USING THE QAID
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Most of the interface is self explainitory. Simply use F1, enter, or the
- left mouse button to activate a hypertext link.
-
- ESC or RIGHT mouse button acts like BACK and will backtrack you through
- the topics you have been to.
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- UN-INSTALLING THE QAID
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- 1. Simply delete its directory, it places no files anywhere else on your
- harddrive.
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- CONTACTING THE AUTHOR
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- At the present time the only way to contact the author is via internet
- e-mail. mdixon@whidbey.net

- Here are some comments from people who have used the QAID:
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Kudos and congrats are in order to our ever working hard listowners and
- give and take members with special light to ~mdixon. On page 134 of
- this month's PC WORLD , (all about Win95), it gives special mention to
- win95-l as a source of superb support without hanging on a tech line and
- special mention to M. Dixon for his home page with great links. Thanks
- to all from this original member. - SCN User - bc127@SCN.ORG
-
- "The media is full of glitz and hype, but here at Netsurfer, we'll just
- point you to a couple of truly useful links. Mike Dixon's Windows 95 page
- has the lowdown on every aspect of the new operating system: bugs, rumors,
- installation instructions, Microsoft Network, Windows 95 myths, and even
- some modest humor. Real beta testers with real comments." - Netsurfer
- Digest , Vol 1, Issue 25 - http://www.netsurf.com/nsd/nsd.95.07.22.html

-
- Hello! I'm writing a homepage for PRODIGY with Windows-related sites.
- As long as you do not have any objections, a link to Windows 95 QAID site
- will be placed on my page. Thanks! - Josh Birnbaum - PRODIGY Windows
- Interest Area Moderator - EUWW77A@prodigy.com
-
- The last guy I told he made Netsurfer Digest didn't know, so I wasn't
- sure if you did. Vol 1 Issue 25 has a link to your page. This and the
- PCWORLD mention means you're doing a FANTASTIC job with the QAID. Keep
- up the good work. Take care, Scott Ross Co-owner WIN95-L
-
- Mike, I've just been checking your db culled from win95-l.
- A great start !!! The main advantage to me is that there is a good index.
- It's quicker to branch down to topics than msn, and win95-l has no index.
- Thanks for the work, John Godfrey
-
- This is a great start. Thanks so much for your work. It has already been
- a help. John Riesen JRIESEN@ansc1.cag.uconn.edu
-
- This is a very good job Mike. Well presented and arranged. Mark Dodge

-
- Mike, Thanks for the great help " QAID" I just logged on to it. IT is a
- real help to not have to look through hundreds of files on WIN95-L and
- try to find any useful items. Please keep up the GOOD work and you just
- might convince me to put WIN95 on my "REAL" system. I'm using a 386-40,
- 4mb RAM and 520md drive with Win95 now. I can't , or don't feel I can take
- the risk of putting it on my 486DX-33 8mb RAM, 420mb drive system yet.
- Again thanks for all your work and I'll be looking to your system for the
- current info. I've logged off the WIN95-L sig as of today. Chuck Alldrin
- Chico, CA
-
- A great idea and looks really useful. I'll be interested in looking at
- the stand-alone hypertext version when it becomes available. In the
- meantime, keep up the good work. Ian Mawer ian_mawer@merck.com
-
- Excellent work in progress! I will (when Win95 comes available) have a
- real good place to send my users to first! Derek Moyes, derekm@tenet.edu
-
- I followed your prompt from the Win95 list server. This is great, you've
- done a great job. I had started the same thing but your vision is a lot
- better than mine. Thanks for taking the time. Mike Courteau
- shuttle@WorldLink.ca
-
- I found your http://www.whidbey.net/~mdixon/win40001.htm site today, it's
- pretty impressive. Ron Schwarz rschwarz@edcen.ehhs.cmich.edu
-
- Here's my thank you. Got pointed in the right direction to getting my PPP
- connection working, thanks. John R. Harris jharris@epsilon.afsoc.af.mil
-
- Hi, your work is just tremendous !! I can count at least eight instances
- where my friends and I have either benefitted from a tip/suggestion from
- your qaid or gain some useful insight into win 95.

- I have had a hard time getting support for Win95 from Microsoft. The docs
- seem to lead me into nevernever land. Your page had the most to offer of
- the other pages that I have visited. Keep up the good work! I'll be back!
